If you sell drinkware in California, you need to understand Proposition 65. This California law requires warning labels on products that contain certain chemicals.\n\nFor stainless steel drinkware, Prop 65 mainly relates to lead and cadmium. Modern food-grade stainless steel (304/316) and proper powder coating should not contain these substances at concerning levels.\n\nWhat you need to do:\n1. Ask your supplier for a Prop 65 test report or declaration.\n2. Make sure the materials used (steel, coating, lid plastic) are tested.\n3. If the test confirms no restricted chemicals above thresholds, no warning label is needed.\n4. If you cannot get documentation, you may need to add a Prop 65 warning label, which hurts the product image.\n\nReputable factories exporting to the US will already have this documentation. If a supplier cannot provide test reports, that is a warning sign.\n\nAlways keep test reports on file — retailers and online marketplaces may ask for them.
