The exterior finish of a stainless steel bottle affects both appearance and durability. Two common options are powder coating and liquid painting.\n\nPowder coating involves applying dry powder electrostatically and curing it under heat. The result is a thick, durable, scratch-resistant finish. It feels matte or textured and resists chipping better than paint. Most premium tumblers and water bottles use powder coat.\n\nLiquid painting applies paint in liquid form and dries it. It can achieve glossy or metallic finishes and is usually cheaper than powder coat. However, it is more prone to scratches and chipping, especially during shipping.\n\nColor range: Powder coat has a wide range of colors including matte, textured and glitter finishes. Liquid paint can match almost any Pantone color, including metallic and pearl effects.\n\nCost difference: Powder coat is slightly more expensive per unit but lasts longer. For promotional items that are used daily, the extra cost is worth it.\n\nWhen comparing suppliers, ask to see physical samples of the finish — photos do not show texture and durability well.
